LOCKYER MAKES SURPRISE CAPTAINCY BID [08/03/08 09:59:06]
Following the shock resignation of Shaun Calladine as 1st X1 skipper as revealed exclusively on the website yesterday, we can reveal an audacious bid by ADCC 4th X1 assistant deputy vice-captain and part-time bagpipe player Andy Lockyer (pictured right) to snatch the prestigious position.
With Calladine unavailable for further comment in the wake of his massive financial settlement following his decision to leave the club earler this week, many members were left wondering just who would fill his boots.
Step forward Lockyer who, although ridiculed in many quarters at The Brow, may have the backing of some powerful figures lurking on the periphery of club activity and with a couple of very fast sports cars in their garage.
Head of Security John Stockbridge (68) was already sensing a new regime was in the offing when interviewed late last night. "At least Andy's not a two faced c**t like some people down here" he slurred, adding "me and him, we're mates, he might be a tad overweight, but at least he admits it".
Cash strapped Treasurer John Everett was out of the area yesterday but is understood to be fuming over the contractual loophole which allowed Calladine to leave the club with a £20 million payoff.
