Eleven enthusiastic quiz teams gathered at The Brow for the first social function of 2009, all hoping that their general knowledge would win them the bragging rights in the area for a few weeks to come.

The timely playing of their Jokers was to prove crucial for the eventual winners Life's A Beach captained by Daniel Woodrow who managed to hold off the challenge of Kevin Pegrum's Rough Round The Hedges to claim the first prize.

New local residents The Cheatahs (Suzi Bashford) and Two Cricketers and Their Husbands (Ashley Edwards) filled the minor placings as the teams were quizzed on a wide range of subjects including sport, TV, current affairs, movies, marketing slogans, food and drink, music and several picture rounds which did not prove as easy as some might imagine.

A sumptuous chilli supper was provided during the interval and the generous donations of both raffle prizes and wine for the winning teams ensured that the event was a much-needed financial success which even managed to bring a smile to the face of curmudgeonly Treasurer John Everett.

A big thank you to all of the teams for entering, those who supported by way of providing prizes and especially to the drinks waitresses, bar staff, chilli servers, markers and Joker scrutineers who ensured fair play, albeit somewhat noisily, throughout.
