The Jack Petchey Foundation is a grant giving charity that funds programmes and projects benefitting young people aged 11-25, in London and Essex.

The aim of the charity is to support projects to enable young people to achieve their potential and contribute to society.

The major focus of the Foundation is the Achievement Award Scheme.

Since its formation in 1999, over £50 million has been distributed.

The Foundation’s main achievements since its inception have been :

Grants totalling £50 million have been given to youth and school projects

The achievements of over 60,000 young people have been recognised and rewarded through the Achievement Award Scheme

Almost 2,000 schools and clubs currently participate in the Scheme

Nearly all the uniformed youth organisations in London and Essex benefit from grants

Sponsorship of many overseas/community projects including : Fulcrum Challenge, Rayleigh International, Groundwork East London

Over £4 million has been given to support ‘Out of School’ or ‘Study Support’ programmes in various Boroughs

£500,000 given to establish the ‘Centre for Entrepreneurship’ at the University of East London

£1 million to support the Summer Uni programme in all London boroughs – matching the London Challenge grant

Supported young homeless people through the Petchey Foyer in Barking and Dagenham, due to open in 2009

Made a major contribution to education in Hackney through the Petchey Academy

ABBERTON AND DISTRICT CRICKET CLUB

Abberton and District Cricket Club is delighted to be associated with by the Jack Petchey Foundation. The club has been granted Bronze level status within the Achievement Award Scheme for 2009. This will enable 3 awards to be made – one in the spring term, one in summer and one in autumn/winter.

Each award will be made to an individual, aged between 11 and 25, and can be nominated by either the main committee or by anyone associated with the cricket club.

Any individual, within the age group, can be nominated and the nomination will reflect that person’s effort, endeavour and achievement. Each award will be worth £200, which is to be spent on a project or item of the individual award winner’s choice.

The individual award winner will receive a framed Achievement Award certificate and an Achievement Award pin badge.

AWARD WINNER FOR SUMMER 2009


MATT DESBOROUGH

For helping to run coaching sessions for the more junior colts within

the club and for regularly stepping into the senior sides at short

notice following any late call offs.

£200 grant used for

Matt's choice of how to spend the £200 award is to purchase a Kwik

cricket bag for use for the colts to use at future Kwik cricket

tournaments and training sessions.

CHRIS PETTIT

For supporting the club at various social functions, for helping at

coaching sessions and for umpiring at Kwik cricket matches and

tournaments.

Christopher's choice of how to spend the £200 award is for

temporary covers for the cricket square.

AWARD WINNER FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2008


TOM SAWDON

For his contribution to the cricket club both on and off the field,

showing maturity which belies his age in his first full season with

the club.

Tom’s choice of how to spend the £300 award is for coaching

sessions for himself and several other Abberton colts at Essex

County Cricket Club.
