Maxine Harris
Rght hand bat/bowler. 08/12/60
Mother of the side and skipper for the past two of her four years at Abberton. Previously at Copford and Wivenhoe. Know as Truffle Shuffle for her bizarre run-up style. Continually threatens to retire at the end of each season, perhaps this one….
Amy Finbow
Left hand bat. Student
For obvious reasons know as ‘Finbow the Bimbo’. Occasionally opens the batting and hits the ball very hard. Sometimes makes an appearance as ‘streaky bacon’. Been with Abberton for four years, previously at Wivenhoe.
Hannah Jeffery
Right hand bat/bowler. Student. 10/12/88
Ex-Kent ladies, now plays in the Essex team. An extremely fast accurate bowler, normally takes a couple of wickets per game. Almost always retires when batting. Second season for Abberton, holds Level 2 Coaching. Based in Kent and travels a lot of miles to play cricket.
Alex Shepherd
Right hand bat/bowler. PE teacher. 17/08/85
First season at Abberton after a one game trial last season, which proved very successful. Bats very solidly, a good asset to the side. Goes by the name of Alfie.
Sue Theobald
right hand bat. 4/03/83
Been at Abberton for three years. Teaches PE at a senior school. Extremely long throwing arm. Normally bats two or three. Once hit a six at Colchester and goes by the name of ‘Baldy’. Often pops to Scotland for some ‘hot haggis’.
Michelle Snow
Right hand bat/bowler. 8/11/80
Know as ‘Tin Tin’ bats number five or six. Previous clubs, Copford and Wivenhoe. Excellent all rounder, attempting to beat Elizabeth Taylor in the marriage stakes.
Gemma Warsap
Right hand bat. 1/04/87. Student
Has played for Abberton for four years. Likes to call ‘hows ya cat’. Seems to get hit with the ball all over including once in the foo-foo. However now managing to use the bat more.
Minal Patel
Right hand bat/bowler. 19/07/77
Vice-skipper. All rounder who has played for most teams in the ladies league but has settled with Abberton for four years. Our overseas player but born in Abberton. Known as ‘mini bits’. Tries hard to contain the kids at the naughty school. Seldom quiet for long.
Jo Sibley
Right hand bat/wicket keeper. 29/03/84
Goes by the name of ‘Sibbers’. Another PE teacher at a senior school. Normally opens the batting and gets the team off to a good start. Been with Abberton for two years. A wicket keeper who takes the 'stomach ache' stance.
Helen Barnes
Right hand bat/wicket keeper. 1/03/81
Known as 'Barnesie'. Born Ireland, married to a rich leprechaun called Duncan. Once healed Gemma from a hernia, has soft magic hands. Played for Barcelona for three years. In her spare time works as a physio.
Rachel Snow
Right hand bat. 28/03/90
Our youngest player; always available, very keen. Not yet mastered bowling, hand grenades delivered at present. Been filling in for Abberton for the last four years, now a full member of the squad, picked up her sisters nickname of Mini Tin Tin.
Hannah Porter
Right hand bat/bowler. 5/10/88. Student
Know as Potty. Been at Abberton for two years and also plays football for Colchester United. Won the bowling trophy for the ladies league in the 2008 season.
Faye Sibley
Right hand bat
Younger sister of Jo. Newcomer to the side, known as ‘Sibbers sibling’. A strong fielder. Also a physio.
Alice Parker
Right had bat/bowler.
Newcomer to the side in 2009.
Zoe Gould
Right hand bat/bowler. 19/09/69
Immigration officer. Been playing for Abberton for three years, when work permits it. Chain smoking chief scorer. Suspected affair with team umpire. Team Enforcer.
