J Edgar Rumney (President)
A true Abberton legend in every sense of the word. Began his career as a teenager in the 1950s and went on to make a staggering 1627 appearances before a hip injury bought about his 'premature' retirement in the late 1990s. Scorer of almost 15,000 runs and, as one of the most formidable bowlers in the area during his heyday, he claimed a club record 1831 wickets. Took fifty wickets in a season on no fewer than eleven occasions and registered four hat-tricks. Has been at the helm since 1997.
Simon Swinn (Chairman)
An awesome opening batsman who was for so long Abberton’s main rungetter after joining the club from Colchester & East Essex. Scorer of 21,848 career runs, he passed 1000 runs in a season on an amazing eleven occasions and his aggregate of 1835 in 1990 remains a club record by some considerable distance. An very able (if often unwilling) wicket-keeper and a highly respected captain whom always controlled his side with dignity. An habitual cross-dresser who sadly chose to retire at the end of the 2005 campaign when persistent knee injuries took their toll.
John Everett (Treasurer)
Little known about his prowess on the field although rumour has it that his highest score came in 1966 when he made 7 not out in two hours on a flat belter v Stoke Mandeville III. A highly proficient Treasurer who has turned the club’s finances around after some less prudent years of stewardship. Resigned during the winter from additional role as Head Groundsman in a fit of pique, later claiming a wide range of bodily infirmities were the reason for his termination. A truly dreadful neighbour! Makes a point of not being at the club on Thursday evening during the colts sessions.
