Full Name: Daniel John Woodrow
Nicknames: Mary, Vulture
Birthplace: Colchester, 1976
Residence: Highwoods, Colchester
Where educated: Brightlingsea Junior, Colchester Royal Grammar School,
Cambridge University
Occupation: Primary School Teacher, Tea Vulture
Previous clubs: CRGS II, Martlesham Nomads III, also recently overage Abberton Colt
Abberton debut: at home v Stowmarket II, 1991 (Percy Sadler was captain and Badger took a catch for my first senior wicket)
Career HS: My only 50 for the club - 55 v Stowmarket at The Brow, 2004. I went in with a fractured left wrist (I'm all bottom hand anyway, so it didn't make a difference) and on a hat trick, cowed the first ball into the net for six and bought a jug of Diet Coke and Blackcurrant to celebrate, although there weren't many takers!
Career BB: 27-113 on the school playing field bowling for both sides in a class cricket match this year or 6-19 at home to Felixstowe, 2005
Cricketing achievements: An all run 4 with Welsh Steve at Tendring last season
Best non-professional played with: Simon Swinn.
Biggest cricketing influence: Edgar Rumney, Tony Patmore, Dave Tingley and Badger Ball - they were the senior players while I was playing for the 3rd XI at the start of my time with the club and were always helpful, supportive and full of advice for the younger players. Dave in particular was an inspirational captain.
Favourite local ground: Copford (circa 2000)
Least favourite local ground: Bocking, Bentley, Eastcliff
Favourite Abberton player: Barry Rudlin
Three sporting legends: Jan Molby, Derek Pringle, Steve Whitfield
Other sports played: Had hockey trials for Essex as a keeper (I just sat there and blocked the goal!), also Badminton and Pie-Eating (have been Brightlingsea All-Comers Champion since 2002)
Most memorable sporting moment: Being behind the goal when Gazza scored the second against Scotland at Wembley during Euro 96 - an amazing atmosphere and a superb piece of individual skill.
Advice for young players: Listen to experienced players, keep firing any questions about the game at them, appreciate their strengths and then develop your own style from that. Also, when batting, close your eyes and swing to leg. Eat as much as you can at tea.
Favourite food: I'll eat anything apart from red cabbage
Favourite drink: Diet Coke and Blackcurrant
Biggest fear in life: An Obesity Tax!
Newspaper read: Times Educational Supplement
Favourite 'lower shelf' periodical: National Geographic, What Cake?
