Full Name: Simon Marmaduke Swinn
Nicknames: Swinny, Chairman
Birthplace: Cambridge, 1962
Residence: The sprawling metropolis of Great Horkesley
Where educated: Alresford Primary, Colchester RGS and the John Ward Scool of Drinking (from where many Abberton players have graduated)
Occupation: Taxi driver for four ungrateful children; I love being a parent
Previous clubs: Great Bromley, Colchester & East Essex, Valentinos
Abberton debut: v Harwich, 1983 (it was a freezing cold April day; I scored one and dropped a catch)
Career HS: 197 v Witham (for Colchester & East Essex), early-1980s
Career BB: 3-36 v Sudbury, 2004 (spin, flight, guile, arm balls, googlies - I tried all of these and none worked)
Cricketing achievements: Playing for Essex Under 19s with and against a whole array of future Test players. Getting the first hat-trick of my career the other day in my back garden. The victims were Sophie (aged 7), Phoebe (4) and Cassie (a dog) who was asleep at the time.
Best non-professional played with: Alec Chamberlian - everything he did on the field was pure class
Biggest cricketing influence: Roger Bayes who taught me loads about the game. Wardy was immense when I joined ADCC. An outstanding player, it was a wonderful experience batting with him. He taught me so much about batting and how to play the game the right way.
Favourite local ground: Elmstead and Copford (both good tracks with flat outfields)
Least favourite local ground: Boxted, Great Bentley, Harwich and West Mersea) they are all cold and unwelcoming)
Favourite Abberton player: Barry Rudlin
Three sporting legends: Ian Botham, Kevin Keegan, Sir Viv (Richards)
Other sports played: Football, Golf, Pocket Billiards
Most memorable sporting moment: Once again there are two. 1969, Newcastle v Ujpest Dozsa in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup, the Toon's last silverware. Magic memories. 1981, Headingley - 'Botham's test' - immense self belief.
Advice for young players: Never, ever be in awe of the opposition. Ater a curry never field downwind from Foxy.
Favourite food: Curry (or any other spicy grub)
Favourite drink: Lager Tops
Biggest fear in life: Heights, birds (the feathered variety, being bowled by an off-spinner (should never happen to a right hander)
Newspaper read: Daily Mail - and of course I believe everything that's written
Favourite 'lower shelf' periodical: Four Four Two
